NEW DELHI: In a move that may hit private courier operators hard, the government today proposed to stop them from carrying letters weighing below 300 grams.
Aimed at regulating the sector to bring about accountability, the government has also proposed to establish an independent Mail Regulatory and Development Authority as also a Mail Disputes Settlement Tribunal.
In the Draft Indian Post Office (Amendment) Bill, 2006, the government has proposed a registration and renewal fee, besides contribution towards Universal Service Obligation Fund.
