The National Statistics Office is implementing more reforms to ensure quality and timeliness of official data, increased reach and coverage of statistics, and planned development of the statistical system of the country, minister of state (independent charge) for statistics and programme implementation Rao Inderjit Singh said Tuesday.

“NSO is on its way to implement more reforms to ensure quality and timeliness of data, increased reach and coverage of statistics collected through innovative measures and various IT initiatives,” Singh said at the Statistics Day event organised by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).

The theme selected for the Statistics Day 2021 was Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) - 2 (End Hunger, Achieve Food Security and Improved Nutrition and Promote Sustainable Agriculture).

Emphasising on accuracy and timeliness of data, Singh said: “MoSPI is also undertaking various initiatives for integrated and planned development of the statistical system of the country.”

On the National Integrated Information Portal (NIIP)- the one-stop digital platform of all major official data sets of central and state government agencies-Singh said its completion will help in faster release of official estimates, enable data-driven policy making, and give user-friendly access of official data to all citizens and stakeholders.

The minister said that the ministry is developing a General Survey Solution called 'e-Survey Instrument and Generalised Multimodal Application' (e-SIGMA) for real time validation that would reduce the time lag, which will transform the survey ecosystem.
