SSIs welcome govt package

NEW DELHI: Small scale industries sector on Tuesday welcomed government''s promise to give special promotional package to it as announced by President A P J Abdul Kalam in his address to the joint session of Parliament and hoped it would consider other demands as well.
Laghu Udyog Bharti, apex chamber of small scale sector, hailed UPA government''s promotinal package to revive several sick units and galvanise the sector to face international competition.
A delegation of small scale entrepreneurs, led by LUB president Balwant Rai Gupta had met the Finance Minister P Chidambaram and sought special package from the government.
They also apprised the Minister of the challenges faced by the sector including credit, technology upgrade and marketing of products.
