Some services face additional 2% surcharge

NEW DELHI: The government will soon detail the services to be included for levying the Swachh Bharat surcharge but said the additional levy may be under 2%.

“It does not mean that on all services we are going to levy additional 2%. It will be on certain select services. If you read the speech it says not more than 2%. Therefore it need not be 2% it could be less than that and from a date to be notified,“ revenue secretary Shaktikanta Das told TOI in an interview.

As part of the move towards GST, the service tax was raised from 12% to 14% with a 2% surcharge on the value of the service.

“We are working out the details. The sectors have not been identified.“
