Scrappage policy paves way for creation of recycling industry: Automobile manufacturers

​Maruti Suzuki chairman RC Bhargava said the policy is unlikely to help increase vehicle sales in the short term, as the implementation process and the creation of requisite infrastructure will take time.

Leading automobile manufacturers said the vehicle scrappage policy will not only help get unsafe, polluting vehicles off the roads, but also pave the way for the creation of a recycling industry, generating investments and jobs.

Maruti Suzuki chairman RC Bhargava said the policy is unlikely to help increase vehicle sales in the short term, as the implementation process and the creation of requisite infrastructure will take time.

“Nothing can happen in the next three years. However, one of the results of the policy will be that it will result in the creation of a recycling industry, which will generate investments and employment,” he told ET.
