NEW DELHI: Reforms process in the power sector should focus on the commercial viability of the sector and has to consolidate to become irreversible, Power Minister Anant G Geete said.
"Power sector''s viability and sustainability is the key to economic growth. The reforms process in the sector must consolidate so as to become irreversible and the sector is on its way to achieving stable business environment for investments to flow," Geete said addressing a Round Table on Power Sector Reforms in India organised by Asia Pacific Centre, Stanford University, California.
"The time has come when reforms should invariably focus on commercial viability of the power sector in the distribution sector," Geete said.
The minister, who is leading a 24 member CII-Power Mission delegation to the US, stressed the need for achieving capacity addition alongwith efficient management of distribution to ensure power accessibility to all.
The minister expressed the hope that the measures being initiated in the sector would help in achieving the goal of Power for All by 2012 with greater degree of self sufficiency.
