NEW DELHI: Reserve Bank Governor D Subbarao on Friday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and is believed to have discussed the state of the economy and initiatives taken by the central bank to arrest the impact of the global financial meltdown on the Indian economy.

The meeting of the RBI Governor with the Prime Minister assumes significance as it comes ahead of the Budget for 2009-10, likely to be tabled in Parliament in the first week of July.

Singh is also scheduled to meet Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Home Minister P Chidambaram later in the day.

The Prime Minister has already asked the Finance Ministry to ensure that the budget "adequately and appropriately" reflects the priorities and programmes outlined in the President Pratibha Patil's address to the joint sitting of Parliament.
