Raje for more sops to SSI sector

Former Union Minister of State for Small Scale Sector and BJP MP Vasundhara Raje said today that the Centre should provide more sops to the SSI sector.

KOLKATA: Former Union Minister of State for Small Scale Sector and BJP MP Vasundhara Raje said today that the Centre should provide more sops to the SSI sector.
Addressing a CII session here, the former minister said that to meet the global challenges of competition, the forthcoming Budget should help the small scale sector.
She said that the small scale sector should be given cheaper credit and access to better technology.
However, Raje said that she was not opposed to the idea of dereservation of more items in the SSI sector, adding that and enabling environment should be created so that they could function in a liberal atmosphere.
She said that further dereservation of items should be carried out after consulting the players in the SSI sector.
The former minister said that the Laghu Udyog Credit Card issued by nationalised banks to the SSI sector had been a runaway success.
The chairman of CII (eastern region), Dipankar Chatterjee said that the SSI sector was the backbone of the national economy.
