'Raise foreign equity in SSI to 49%'
Government should consider raising foreign equity participation from the existing 24 per cent to 49 per cent in Small Scale Industries sector to ensure higher returns, says Parliamentarian M M Agarwal.

NEW DELHI: Government should consider raising foreign equity participation from the existing 24 per cent to 49 per cent in Small Scale Industries sector to ensure higher returns, says Parliamentarian M M Agarwal.
Agarwal, a convenor of the sub-committee in Ministry of Small Scale and Agro and Rural Industries, also said that SSIs need a fresh attention and should be revitalised as it is an essential and vibrant segment of Indian economy contributing over 39 per cent of manufacturing output and 34 per cent of the nation's export.
In his book on "Small Scale Industries in India - Today and Tomorrow", Agarwal said recommends a cluster approach, technology management, broad-basing of ownership of small firms, closer cooperation between small and big companies and optimum capacity utilisation and HR management.
Agarwal said the 114 lakh small firms spread across the country provides employment to over 270 lakh people.
"SSIs are on the move worldwide because of the inherent strength of the sector in boosting all round growth and development of national economy," Santosh Bagrodia, MP and chairman of Parliamentray Standing Commitee on Industry, said releasing the book.
The book deals with the general industrial scenario in respect to small scale and medium enterprises and provide strength, weakness, opportunity and threat analysis of various institutions and schemes launched by the government.
