Rail, metro, bus tickets with old Rs 500 notes only till December 10

The government has been making changes to the implementation details of the demonetisation scheme announced on November 8 based on feedback received.

New Delhi: The old Rs 500 notes can be used to buy rail, metro and bus tickets only till December 10, the government said on Thursday, shortening the exemption period from December 15.

The government earlier shortened the exemption for fuel purchases using old notes to December 2. The government has been making changes to the implementation details of the demonetisation scheme announced on November 8 based on feedback received.

Exemptions are being withdrawn wherever the government sees lesser need or where there are fears of laundering. Exemptions ending on December 10 include payment for catering services during train travel, tickets for suburban and metro rail, train ticket and ticket for state buses.
