Punjab constitutes commissionerate of food and drug administration

NEW DELHI: Punjab government has constituted a new commissionerate of food and drug administration for regulation of food standards and safety, drugs and cosmetics as per provisions of the acts enacted and rules made there under on the subject.

Madan Mohan Mittal Minister for health and family welfare Punjab said that the state government has issued orders in this regard that the commissionerate will be headed by an officer designated as commissioner food and drug administration.

The commissionerate will function under the administrative secretary of the department of health and family welfare. He said that present structure including various posts of the headquarters and of the field under the directorate of health and family welfare dealing with the subjects of drugs, food safety and related issues will stand transferred to the newly created commissionerate.

Mr Mittal said that by constituting a commissionerate proper rate and quality etc of drugs and food articles would be ensured. He added that registration and licensing for selling food articles would also be necessary under Food Safety Act.
