Procedural requirements for 54 disinvest cases underway

NEW DELHI: All efforts are being made to complete procedural requirements to finalise the 54 cases of disinvestment which will help fulfill the Rs 12,000 crore realisation target fixed for 2002-03, Rajya Sabha was informed today.
"For the year 2002-03, the target is Rs 12,000 crore. No target has been fixed for 2003-04.
In order to realise the target, the Minister of Disinvestment is processing disinvestment in 54 cases at present. All efforts are being made to complete the procedural requirements to finalise these cases," Disinvestment Minister Arun Shourie said in a written reply.
On whether the government was divided over disinvestment of public sector undertakings, Shourie said "Different points of view on the appropriate way to proceed on disinvestment or inferences drawn from experience are harmonised through inter-ministerial consultations".
He said a target of Rs 78,000 crore has been set for disinvestment over the Tenth Plan Period.
Shipyards: The Disinvestment Cmmission has recommended disinvestment of government equity in Cochin Shipyard Ltd, Hindustan Shipyard and Central Inland Water Transport Corporation, Minister of State for Shipping Thirunavukkarasar said adding the commission''s recommendations are at a very preliminary stage of discussion.
NIL: Action is under way to locate a joint venture partner for National Instruments Limited, Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises V Kathiria said.
Conversion: No specific proposal has been received by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for enacting a law to stop conversions be allurement or force.
