NEW DELHI: Progress of new flagship programmes on housing, smart cities, toilet construction and waste management as part of Swachh Bharat Mission will now be monitored and reviewed by PM Modi. The PM also wants the tourism ministry to identify top 50 tourist destinations and make them wi-fi zones.
These directions form part of the minutes issued by PMO following Modi's last meeting with ministers and secretaries dealing with infrastructure sectors. "Departments have been directed to provide wi-fi facility in Puri, Ujjain and Nasik for the upcoming Nabakalebara and Kumbh Mela," said a government official.

It is clear that PM wants results in major schemes that have been announced in the last one year and hence the progress will be reviewed. Niti Aayog and the administrative reforms department have been directed to compile the progress reports.

The PM has suggested that officials behind better performance in these sectors should be awarded on Civil Service Day . Recently, even urban development ministry announced that collectors of districts that do better in Swachh Bharat scheme will get Rs 1 lakh award each.

The PM has directed for monitoring of the delayed projects to ensure early commissioning and avoidance of time and cost overruns.
