Power cos to sell 3% output in open mkt
Power generators may soon be able to sell 3% of their capacity to consumers of their choice in any location. The Planning Commission would incorporate this suggestion in its advisory to the Prime Minister.
Speaking at a conference in Delhi organised by industry chamber Assocham, Mr Chaturvedi said the government may make it mandatory for power generators to sell 3% capacities through open access system. Moreover, the Planning Commission would recommend that the 3% ceiling be expanded in the future. This will ensure that power distributors are able to capture 10% of the power market through open access system, he said.
India is estimated to add 80,000 mw to its existing capacities during the 11th Five-Year Plan period, against a capacity addition of 20,000 mw in the 10th Five-Year Plan.
