Potato, onion brought under Essential Commodities Act

"To check hoarding the government has also fixed the maximum stock limit of small and medium businessmen and also the whole sellers," Saha told reporters.

AGARTALA: The Tripura government has decided to bring onion and potato under the Essential Commodities Act (ECA), 1955, to check price rise, state Information Minister Bhanu Lal Saha said today.

A high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar reviewed rising prices of some essential commodities yesterday and decided to bring potato and onion under the ECA.

Potato and onion are being sold at Rs 45-50 per kg in the retail markets of Tripura.

"To check hoarding the government has also fixed the maximum stock limit of small and medium businessmen and also the whole sellers," Saha told reporters.

Sarkar also asked the consumers affairs department to keep strong vigil about strict adherence to the decision.
