NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to inaugurate a two-day CII conference on April 18 that is aimed at giving policy makers, industry leaders and opinion makers a common platform to review country's economic progress.
During the annual conference - 'Sustainable Competitiveness: Fostering Development' - the experts would review the country's economic progress against the backdrop of country's socio-economic development and international business engagements, a CII release said.
Issues like economic reforms programme, revitalisation of the rural economy, renewal of urban infrastructure, environmental safeguards and good governance would be discussed at the conference, it said.
The meet would help address the issue of diversification of farm sector besides that of strengthening of manufacturing sector to maintain the country's high growth trajectory, it said.
Growth of agriculture and manufacturing sectors depends on the development of world-class physical infrastructure across the country, it said.
Columbia University's Prof Jeffery Sachs, an expert on sustainable development, will share his thoughts on inclusive growth and environmental protection at the conference.
Prime Minister will also present the annual Exemplary Awards instituted jointly by the CII and the Bharti Enterprises, to distinguished women.
Sustainability awards would be given to Indian corporates with exemplary performance in environmental, economic and social dimensions of sustainable development, it said.
