PM to inaugurate CII Conference
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate a National Conference on Bharat Nirman, being organised by CII, on December 16, 2005.
The conference based on the theme of "Unlocking Rural India's Development Potential through Infrastructure Creation" would witness participation from Minister for Rural Development Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Panchayati Raj Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar, Minister of State for Water Resource Santosh Mohan Dev and renowned agriculturist M S Swaminathan, a CII release said.
The Rs 1,74,000 crore Bharat Nirman project is aimed at improving rural infrastructure including rural roads, telephony, irrigation, electricity and water supply.
The four-year project will bring additional one crore hectares under irrigation; connect 66,802 villages with roads; construct 60 lakh additional houses for the poor; provide potable water to 55,607 habitations; electrify the remaining 1,25,000 villages and provide connection to 2.3 crore houses and connect 66,822 villages with telephone lines, it said.
The various components of this major exercise in building India's infrastructure base will be unvielded in the National conference, the release added.
