Plantation tax on tea estates for 2007-08 waived
Kerala Cabinet on Friday decided to exempt tea plantations from plantation tax for 2007-08, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said.
Decision was taken in the wake of grave crisis faced by tea plantations due to various reasons, he told reporters aftet cabinet meeting here.
The cabinet decided to procure paddy from farmers at the rate of Rs.10 per kg during the current 'punja' crop season also, he said. An amount of Rs.25 crores have been earmarked for the purpose, he said.
As part of the 'Clean Kerala Drive' scheme, it was decided to carry out a massive cleaning programme througout the state from May 5 to May 15, ahead of the monsoon season, he said.
To make the functioning of Headload Workers Welfare Board more effective, it was decided to constitute 14 district committees and one area committee for Cochin Port Trust by dismantling the existing 34 committees, he said.
The Cabinet also decided to pay a solatium of Rs. one lakh each to the families of seven Congress workers killed when a lorry ran over a Congress rally at Pothanikkad near Kochi last week.
