Plan Panel seeks quick call on Shome committee report

NEW DELHI: The planning commission has asked the government to take a quick decision on the Shome committee recommendations putting pressure on the finance ministry to take a stand.

The Shome committee was set up to study proposed anti-avoidance rules and the retrospective taxation of overseas deals. "A firm decision on the recommendations of the committee should be announced as early as possible," the 12th Plan document says without mentioning the committee.

Identifying revival of animal spirits as the immediate policy objective, the document highlights the perceptions among investors that some taxation changes in the budget are anti-investor.
