PHDCCI on Thursday asked the government to repeal additional excise duty, textile committee cess and hand yarn obligation to make the industry globally competitive.

NEW DELHI: PHDCCI on Thursday asked the government to repeal additional excise duty, textile committee cess and hand yarn obligation to make the industry globally competitive.
"There is an urgent need that the excise duty on synthetic raw material including fabric and yarn be brought down to the level applicable to cotton based products," PHDCCI member H B Chaturvedi said in a representation submitted to the Textile Ministry.
To facilitate entry of medium and large scale players into the knitted fabric and garment sector, requisite policy formulations need to be introduced by the government urgently, he said.
The Chamber also asked the government to remove import duty on cotton and the anti-dumping duties on synthetic raw material.
