new delhi: the centre has decided to foot a subsidy bill to the tune of rs 305 crore arising from foodgrain distribution to the relief camp residents in gujarat. in accordance with the decision, the food ministry will now release 700 tonnes of rice and 3,100 tonnes of wheat to the relief camps. in addition, it has also been decided that 35 kg of foodgrain will be distributed to consumers below the poverty line in the riot affected regions of gujarat. the decision comes following prime minister’s recent visit to gujarat and his announcement there that the relief work to victims of communal riots in the state would be overseen by the pmo in tandem with the state government and that the bill for foodgrain distribution would be footed by the centre.
