More than four lakh people in the urban poor category have been assisted in setting up micro-enterprises and more than five lakh provided with skill training in the tenth plan, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday.
NEW DELHI: More than four lakh people in the urban poor category have been assisted in setting up micro-enterprises and more than five lakh provided with skill training in the tenth plan, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday.
Minister of State for Housing and Poverty Alleviation Kumari Selja said in a reply that the tenth five-year plan aimed at reducing poverty by 5 per cent by 2007 and 15 by 2012.
National targets were fixed in the plan to provide four lakh employment opportunities to the urban poor through micro-enterprises and to impart skill training to five lakh under the Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojna.
The minister cited quarterly progress reports from states and union territories up to February 28 this year, which show that 462,265 people in the urban poor category have been assisted with setting up micro enterprises and 560,032 given skill training.
North-Eastern Housing: Assam is faced with maximum shortage of housing in the entire north-east region, according to a study Selja cited in reply to another question. There is a shortage of more than 300,000 homes in Assam, the study carried out by a technical group of the ministry showed.
