TIRUNELVELI: The DMK Government in Tamil Nadu had disbursed Rs 175 crore to 3.08 lakh labourers and farmers under the Agricultural Labourers - Farmers Social Security and welfare scheme since it was launched in December 2006, state Revenue Minister I Periyasamy said today.

Speaking after inaugurating the new taluk office building at Elangulam in the district, he said the DMK government had launched various welfare measures for the upliftment of the downtrodden and poor.

Under the social security scheme, registered labourers and farmers are entitled for various assistance and relief under different categories such as death in accident, natural death, educational expenditure and marriage of dependents.

He said the government had sanctioned new office buildings for 27 taluk offices, including four in the district, and spent Rs 67 crore for construction of residential quarters for the revenue department officials in the last two years.

Referring to the free colour TV scheme, he said the government would soon cross the one crore TV sets.

He accused the opposition AIADMK of ignoring the welfare measures taken by the government and instead trying to find fault with it always.
