Old Rs 500 notes to be accepted at toll plazas till December 15

The government had earlier decided to allow Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes to be accepted at the tolls, but non-availability of change caused traffic snarls.

NEW DELHI: The government has extended suspension of toll collection on National Highways till December 2. The toll collection will resume after December 2, however, old notes of Rs 500 be accepted till December 15.

The Road Transport and Highways Ministry has asked SBI to install POS machines at all toll plazas so that users can pay toll charge through their debit and credit cards.

The government had earlier decided to allow Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes to be accepted at the tolls, but non-availability of change caused traffic snarls.


“We have extended the withdrawal of collection on national highways till the midnight of November 24,” road transport and highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said.

The government had earlier suspended toll collection till 24th November.Toll fee has been suspended at over 350 toll collection booths.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 7 had announced that his government was scrapping use of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes to fight the problem of black money and terror financing through fake currency.
