NEW DELHI: The government has extended suspension of toll collections on national highways till the midnight of November 14 to ensure that scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes does not cause chaos at toll plazas.

The government had earlier decided to allow Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes to be accepted at the tolls, but non-availability of change caused traffic snarls.

“There will be no toll collection on national highways till the midnight of November 14. I have instructed the NHAI to extend the suspension of toll collection,” road transport and highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said.

Gadkari’s ministry has already issued formal instructions to all contractors and agencies engaged in the work of toll collection.

The government had earlier suspended toll collection till 11th November.

Toll fee has been suspended at over 350 toll collection booths.
