No tax return for income less than Rs 1.5 lakh

On direct taxes, several administrative measures have been proposed from April 1, including filing of paperless Income Tax returns, by introducing direct filing through internet and digital signatures for salaried taxpayers and professionals like doctors and accountants.
The Centre also proposes to expand computer network to cover all 501 Income Tax offices by June 2004 and the number of challan forms for payment of TDS would be reduced from four to one.
