No tax certificate required for getting commercial contracts

In line with the Kelkar panel's suggestions, the government on Monday did away with the mandatory requirement of furnishing tax certificates along with a tender for bidding for contracts.

NEW DELHI: In line with the Kelkar panel''s suggestions, the government on Monday did away with the mandatory requirement of furnishing tax certificates along with a tender for bidding for contracts.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes said in a statement that no person would be required to furnish tax clearance certificates for obtaining commercial contracts.
The government earlier abolished the requirement of such certificates by persons leaving the country.
The above change in procedures is in accordance with the suggestions made by the Task Force on Direct Taxes headed by Finance Minister''s advisor Vijay Kelkar, an official release said.
