No short-cuts in the job market

i had joined the indian office of an mnc in hr department a few months back. lots of people have moved since then and many a times it has been a surprise to see people moving out though they were doing fairly well. as a young hr professional, how should i ensure the stay-ability of people and also recruit people who would stick in the organisation? rs, pune the situation that you are depicting seems to have less of people selection problem but has more to do with the external and internal environment of your company. while the external factors are difficult to control, you should try to focus on internal factors which are creating the situation uncomfortable for people. have a detailed chat with the people around to analyse the disturbing factors. discuss with your superiors. involve people in other deciplines to evolve steps that can be initiated. work on them diligently. i'm a middle-level marketing executive in an mnc. as a support person, a young lady has been assigned the task to assist me. practically speaking, i required a guy for the job as it involves late sitting and following up with tough clients. as usual the girl is not able to meet my expectations. hr people don't listen to me. what should i do? xyz, delhi it is unfortunate to read such immpressions where in our country a lady led the government for over 12 years. on the work front there is nothing that a man can do which a lady cannot do. you will have to work on correcting your perception. talk to her. try to enable her perform instead of acting as a diabler with your fixed ideas. your hr department would be glad to extend all the training and counselling support if you ever need. i have read somewhere that very low percentage of recruitment is through ad release, as most of the vacancies are filled with internal resources as references. is this true? what a young engineer like me who hasn't got a good job should do? please advise. i'm desperate. sanjay sharma, delhi it is true that many companies hire people without advertising. however, it is very difficult to generalise the situation for entry level positions. in this current tough job market, there are no short-cuts available. you have to continue making your hard attempts. instead of showing desperation, it may be worthwhile to focus on continuos upgradation of knowledge and skill so that you can prove yourself to be a shade better than others. be smart and try hard.
