No plans to impose green cess on polluting industries
The government has no plans to impose "green" cess on the polluting industries.
"The government is not considering to impose environmental cess on the polluting industries," Environment minister Namo Narain Meena said in a written reply.
He said the present Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1974 and Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1981 provide adequate powers to the competent authorities to prevent and control the pollution and mitigate the same and if necessary take punitive actions.
The minister also informed that the government has enacted Water (Prevention and control of pollution) Act 1979 which provides for collection of water cess for water extracted.
