No increase in coal prices this fiscal: Bagrodia
The Union Minister of State for Coal Santosh Bagrodia today asserted that coal ministry will not increase the prices of coal in view of already soaring prices of essential commodities in the country.
"We have decided not to enhance coal prices during the current financial year and the notified prices will remain stable. This will be coal ministry's contribution to check the inflation" Bagrodia told press conference here today. Chariman-cum-Managing Director of Western Coalfields Limited, D C Garg was also present on the occasion.
Bagrodia said the coal ministry is also contemplating a growth of 12 percent from the present 6 percent.
It has revised its target for the year 2008-2009 from 405 million tonnes to 425 million tonnes. This revised production target will also help the ministry to maintain the price level of coal and also inflation, the minister added.
The subsidiary companies of Coal India Limited (CIL) have been specifically directed to adhere to freezing of coal prices across the coal belt.
