No farm good sops for SEZs and EOUs

The government has barred SEZs and export oriented units (EOUs) from accessing the revamped Vishesh Krishi and Gram Udyog Yojana.

NEW DELHI: The government has barred SEZs and export oriented units (EOUs) from accessing the revamped Vishesh Krishi and Gram Udyog Yojana that provides additional incentives for farm products and cottage goods. Earlier, EOUs as well as exporters based in SEZs were entitled to duty-free import scrips to the tune of 5% of their export turnover.

Changes made in the annual supplement to the Foreign Trade Policy prevent SEZs and EOUs from taking advantage of the sops, sources said. In any case, the duty-free import entitlement provided through the Vishesh Krishi and Gram Yojana, an export-promotion window brought in to promote the governments pro-farmer plank, has been cut down to 3.5%.
