NITI Aayog hires services of at least six multinational consultancy firms to carry out studies across key areas of the government

Rao Inderjit Singh said appropriate monitoring mechanisms are in place in NITI Aayog, including oversight committees to ensure timely completion of the assignments and quality thereof.

NITI Aayog has hired services of at least six multinational consultancy firms spending about Rs 15 crore for carrying out studies and suggesting policy interventions across key areas of the government, including asset monetisation, setting up of giga battery manufacturing units and development of islands in the country, planning minister Rao Inderjit Singh said in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

The key firms include the BCG India for sustainable action for transforming human capital education with project cost at Rs 6.5 crore, IPE Global for developing a detailed masterplan for holistic development of nine islands (Rs 7 crore) and Pricewaterhouse Coopers for policy intervention for giga scale battery manufacturing (Rs 0.2 crore) amongst others.

“Hiring of services by NITI AAyog is primarily from organsiations having distinct legal status in India. However, some of the firms hired have global lineage in terms of foreign shareholding or their global headquarters being in a foreign country or brand name usage,” planning minister Singh said.


When asked what is the Aayog doing to ensure timely completion of projects, Singh said appropriate monitoring mechanisms are in place in NITI Aayog, including oversight committees to ensure timely completion of the assignments and quality thereof.
