New small scale industry policy to be released in Tamil Nadu
The new Small Scale Industry policy, which is taking final shape, would benefit not only small and medium industries, but also micro industries in the state.
The ministry would discuss with Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on providing subsidy to the micro industries (below rs.25 lakh), as envisaged by the Centre.
Speaking at the launch of a training course under skill development programme in foundries in the region, Palanisami said of the total 5.3 lakh industries, there were 4.5 lakh small industries, which contributed 40 per cent of total industrial production, 40 per cent exports and 70 per cent of employment generation, in Tamil Nadu.
Asking the job seekers from other districts of the State, from where they were migrating, to tap huge potential of the region, he said Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute (MSME DI-formerly known as SISI, the organisers of the training, to concentrate on other sectors like motor and pump, garment, construction, computer and windmill maintenance
Efforts would be made to coordinate with Entreneurship Development Institute under his ministry and MSME, to design more such programmes, he said.
Palanisami, who visited the coir fair in Kochi yesterday, said with coconut grown in five to six lakh hectares in Tamil Nadu, there were at least five lakh jobs in the sector.
