The proposed Viksit Bharat Sankalp (VBS) indicator framework will create a data-driven mechanism to track the country's development trajectory through about 385 macro indicators spanning key sectors of the economy. The framework will assess progress towards the Viksit Bharat vision by tracking economic, social and infrastructure outcomes, with a focus on inclusive, resilient and sustainable development.
The ministry of statistics and programme implementation (MoSPI) is facilitating the development of the framework, one of its key focus areas. It is slated for implementation by 2031.
"While 2031 is the outer timeline, it can be released earlier," an official said.

The framework will likely cover sectors including labour, agriculture, health, urban development, transport and logistics. The statistics ministry is consulting line ministries to identify and refine the indicators, ensuring the framework reflects progress across the seven building blocks and 25 themes underpinning the Viksit Bharat vision.
Viksit Bharat is the government's mission to transform India into a developed nation by the centenary of Independence in 2047. The indicator framework is expected to serve as a key tool for tracking progress towards that goal over the coming decades. India's gross domestic product (GDP) grew 7.7% in FY26, up from 7.1% in FY25, underscoring the economy's momentum as the government sharpens its focus on long-term development outcomes.
