State governments will act as nodal agency for the implementation of the scheme," economic advisor to food ministry Anuradha Balaram said.

SHILLONG: The Ministry of Food Processing Industries will launch National Mission on Food Processing Scheme (NMFPS) involving state governments by April this year.

"The state governments will act as nodal agency for the implementation of the scheme," economic advisor to the ministry Anuradha Balaram said.

Announcing this at a seminar 'Meghalaya Food Processing Investors Meet' organized by NERAMAC in the city on Wednesday she said under the scheme the ministry would fund 90 per cent and the rest would be borne by the concerned state.

"We will soon release the funds to the state governments for implementation of the scheme", Balaram said adding the Centre was also focussing on making the scheme a state vision for promoting food processing in the NE.

The scheme would involve activities such as strengthening of the institutions besides encouraging awareness among the people, she added.
