Nagaland lifts ban on recruitments, employees to retire at 60

Nagaland government has lifted ban on recruitments to various departments which has been in force officially for the past two decades.

KOHIMA: Nagaland government has lifted ban on recruitments to various departments which has been in force officially for the past two decades.

Official sources here said the state Cabinet recently took this decision as the departments recruited many people over the years despite the ban, which resulted in dissent among the students who described such recruitments as "backdoor appointments".

The government also decided to raise superannuation age from the present 57 to 60 years, the sources said.

But Naga Students Federation (NSF) lodged strong protest against the raising of superannuation age, asserting that the decision would only deprive thousands of educated unemployed in the state.

The powerful students body, which has been very vocal against what it called backdoor appointments and demanded increase of upper age limit for entry into government service of 35 years with a maximum tenure of 33 years, demanded an immediate review of the government decision on retirement age and maintain the status quo.
