NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet tonight gave ex-post facto approval to the Memorandum of Understanding between India and Russia on cooperation in combating terrorism.
The MOU signed during the visit of Russian President Vlamidir Putin in December last provides for setting up an Indo-Russian working group on combating terrorism, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj told reporters after the meeting.
Under the MoU, the JWG would function as an inter-agency group on both sides and would be coordinated by their respective Foreign Offices, she said adding that it would provide for exchange of information on terrorist groups whose activities undermine the interests of both the countries.
The two countries would also cooperate and assist each other in exchanging relevant scientific and training materials and to control the organisations conducting money or property transactions to counteract legalisation of income from criminal activities for the purposes of financing terrorism.
