People who wanted to drink could now apply for permits to drink, buy and possess alcohol in all the district offices of the Excise and Narcotics Department.

AIZAWL: Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Minister R Lalzirliana today reiterated the newly-legislated Mizoram Liquor Prohibition and Control (MLPC) Act 2014 will be implemented during the current fiscal and the notification will soon be issued.

Addressing a New Year tea party, Lalzirliana said there was a proposal to award wine shop vendor license to state PSUs like the Mizoram Food and Allied Industries Corporation ( MIFCO) which would help revamp the sick public undertaking unit.

There would be two or more Bonded Warehouse in the state, he said adding there was a proposal to open four retail wine shops in Aizawl city, two shops in south Mizoram's Lunglei town and one each in the other six district headquarters.

The MLPC Act-2014, to replace the Mizoram Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1995 in force in the state for the past 17 years, was enacted by the state Assembly in July last year and the MLPC Rules, 2014 was also laid in the state Assembly in November last year.
