Minister Deshpande wants footwear, textiles and biscuits under low GST slab

BENGALURU: Industries & Infrastructure Minister R.V.Deshpande on Wednesday urged Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to put items such as footwear, textiles and biscuits under a low GST rate as they are used by the masses.

"The GST rates and GST compensation cess are yet to be fixed for footwear, textiles and biscuits. Since these commodities are essential and regularly used by all the citizen whether poor or rich and also many unorganised labourers are working in these sectors, it is necessary that the GST should be fixed at minimum slab for these commodities," the Minister said in a letter.
