MHADA to wind up housing scheme for poor by year end

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority has proposed to wind up its Central govt sponsored Valmikhi Ambedkar Awas Yojana by December 31.

YAVATMAL: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has proposed to wind up its Central govt sponsored Valmikhi Ambedkar Awas Yojana by December 31.

According to sources, MHADA has given instructions to three Municipal Councils in the district - Yavatmal, Pusad and Wani, where the scheme is currently underway, to conduct separate survey about the progress of the ongoing project to submit a comprehensive report on or before December 31.

The Central Government has sanctioned funds for implementing the scheme for providing shelter to the BPL beneficiaries in the city slums.

As per the norms of the scheme, the Government would bear Rs 80,000, while the beneficiary should bear Rs 10,000, towards the cost of the house to be constructed under the supervision of MHADA. The MHADA has so far sanctioned Rs. 8 crore for the scheme and spent Rs 4 crore for the construction of the houses through private contractors.

Additional Collector Anil Bansod has held a review meeting in this regard with the MHADA officials and the Chief Officers of the three Municipalities.

After due deliberations, it was decided to conduct a survey and submit a report to MHADA by December 31. It was also decided to make efforts to get the pending works completed by December 31 and all the incomplete works should be listed under the ISSDP scheme.

There are 1046 such BPL beneficiaries under the scheme and they would be placed under the ISSDP scheme after December 31.
