Maharashtra wants PPP model in jateropha plantation
Maharashtra Government today mooted a Public-Private Partnership model (PPP) to step up plantation of jateropha seeds for encouraging biofuel production.
"To meet the growing need for biofuel to save fast depleting natural fuel resources and clean environment, we want the PPP model to ensure a quantum leap in production of clean fuel," Minister of State for Non-conventional Energy and Horticulture Vinay Kore said.
"We also want to engage the services of large number of unemployed youth for sowing the seeds. Since farmers won't be interested in cultivation of jateropha, the confluence of private sector and youth can be the best alternative," Kore said at the FICCI Third Global Conference on Green Fuel.
"We have a concept of sugar societies, formed together by 11 or more unemployed youth, on the lines of cooperative societies. If the entrepreneur decides to participate in jateropha cultivation, he or she can contact these societies to engage their services," the minister said.
The government was in talks with some of the private sector companies in this regard, he added.
