MUMBAI: Issues like recent violence in Mumbai following anti-Indian remarks by MNS chief Raj Thackeray, acute power shortage and farmers suicides are likely to dominate the budget session of Maharashtra Legislature beginning on Monday.

The session begins in the backdrop of the race among parties to hog credit for the farmers loan waiver and the row over diversion of Employment Guarantee Scheme funds. The session is expected to continue till the last week of April.

Finance Minister Jayant Patil will table the state budget in the Assembly on March 19.

Goa Governor S C Jamir, who was today sworn in as Maharashtra Governor following resignation of S M Krishna on March 5, will address the joint sitting of the state legislature tomorrow.

There is a keen tussle between ruling Congress and NCP over claiming credit for the Rs 60,000 crore farmers loan waiver. NCP was the first off the block with full-page advertisements in newspapers, lauding party chief and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar for his initiative.

NCP organized a series of farmers rallies in the state, with Pawar addressing one at Beed in Marathwada region yesterday.
