Maha budget session begins; oppn seeks total loan waiver
The budget session of Maharashtra Legislature got underway here, with opposition members disrupting Governor S C Jamir's address, demanding total loan waiver to farmers.
As Jamir, who was sworn in yesterday, entered the central hall of Vidhan Bhawan, members of Shiv Sena-BJP alliance and others belonging to Swatantra Bharat Party (SBP) and Peasants and Workers Party shouted slogans, demanding complete loan waiver.
The slogan shouting continued for some time even after Jamir started his speech. SBP MLA Wamanrao Chatap and Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana MLA Raju Shetty shouted slogans protesting the "anti-farmer" policies of the government.
At a point in his speech, when Jamir was dwelling on the measures the Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra had taken for the farmers, the slogan shouting intensified.
Deepak Sawant, Shiv Sena MLC, insisted that the former Nagaland Chief Minister speak in Marathi.
When Jamir completed his speech, opposition members resumed slogan shouting, demanding total loan waiver for farmers.
