The railways have evolved a formula for sanctioning rail projects on the basis of population and geography to remove complaints of discrimination from states and region, Railways minister Nitish Kumar said here on Tuesday.

new delhi: the railways have evolved a formula for sanctioning rail projects on the basis of population and geography to remove complaints of discrimination from states and region, railways minister nitish kumar said here on tuesday. replying to debate on railway budget in the lower house today, the minister said that under the formula, 15 per cent weightage each was being given to population and geography and the rest 70 per cent to resources. the house passed the railway budget and the relevant appropriation bill after negating all cut motions by voice vote. in his hour-long reply, kumar said that during the current fiscal, the railways would focus on improving passenger amenities.
