Local bodies should attract investments for their needs

THRISSUR: Attracting investments from private individuals, non-resident Keralites, corporate and non-governmental sector was important for local bodies for the area development, Local Administration Minister Cherkalam Abdullah, said.
Inaugurating a two-day "media Workshop on Kerala Development Plan'', under the auspices of Kerala Institute of Local Administration, here, he said the media had a pivotal role to play in making Kerala development plan a success.
He said the local bodies could not depend on government alone for funding their needs and executing their plans.
The government had decided to make five-year development plans for the local bodies as against the present annual plans. The government had allocated Rs 335.5 crore to the local bodies as second installment for the current fiscal despite facing acute financial crunch, he said adding that the first installment of the same amount was disbursed in October last.
A total of 40 representatives from the print and visual media are participating in the workshop. The Institute''s Director Dr P P Balan, also participated.
