COIMBATORE: With the indefinite strike by the workers of National Textile Corporation (NTC) entering the 12th day today, efforts are being made to facilitate a dialogue at higher levels in Delhi, to find an amicable solution to the contentious bonus issue. Over 3,000 workers of five of the six NTC mills here have been on an indefinite strike since October 19, demanding that bonus should be paid, without treating it as recoverable advance from their terminal benefits.
Yesterday, about 400 workers were arrested for attempting to stage a hunger strike in front of the mills along with their family members, despite a ban. Though all the workers were released, cases were registered against them.
Meanwhile, the joint commissioner of labour convened a meeting with trade union leaders and the representatives of the management this evening to find a solution.
