K'taka revives PDS for those above poverty line

Karnataka Government has revived the scheme to provide foodgrains under the public distribution system to people living above the poverty line (APL) also, State Minister for Food and Civil Supplies D B Inamdar said on Saturday.

bangalore: karnataka government has revived the scheme to provide foodgrains under the public distribution system to people living above the poverty line (apl) also, state minister for food and civil supplies d b inamdar said on saturday. speaking to reporters here, he said 28 kg of rice at the rate of rs 8 per kg and 7 kg of wheat at the rate of rs 5.50 per kg would be distributed from this month. inamdar said centre had agreed to provide 2.25 lakh tonnes of rice and 56,414 tonnes of wheat to the state from april. for people living below the poverty line, 25 kg of rice at the existing rate of rs 6.15 per kg and 7 kg of wheat at the rate of rs 4.75 per kg would be provided, thereby increasing the quota from 16 kg of rice and four kg of wheat for them, he said. inamdar said there were 63.71 lakh bpl (below the poverty line) ration card holders in the state.
