THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala's budget for 2008-09 will be presented in the state assembly by Finance Minister Thomas Isaac on March 7.

The budget presentation would be followed by tabling of a vote-on-account for the expenses to be incurred in the first quarter of the fiscal, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said here today during his weekly cabinet briefing.

The session would begin on Feruary 20 with the annual policy address to the house by Governor R L Bhatia.

Thomas had already stated that the full budget would not be passed before March 31 as two principal partners of the ruling LDF -- CPI-M and CPI-I-- would be preoccupied with their party Congresses in March.

The government's plan is to convene a session of the assembly in June-July to give effect to budget proposals after department-wise debate in the house.
