Jharkhand moots to set up state industrial security force

RANCHI: Jharkhand government is seriously considering setting up a state industrial security force on the lines of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to protect industries as some public sector units in the state are seeking security from the state government.
Though the idea to have a state industrial security force was mooted two years ago, the government is seriously considering giving its nod to it in 2008. +The government is pondering over this proposal, Chief Minister Madhu Koda told reporters last night.
A senior IPS officer, who does not want to be quoted, said the proposal for such a force was mooted in 2005-06, with a provision of providing security for a premium to those industries seeking for it.
The proposal for a state industrial security force has come in the backdrop of Jharkhand becoming an attractive destination for investors for its mineral resources and some central public sectors units reportedly seeking security from the state.
The naxalites, who operate in 18 of the 24 districts in the state, often indulge in destroying costly equipment of business establishments if they are not given extortion money, said the police officer.
On the night of December 27 naxalites set fire to four dumpers and a pay-loader at the Teteriakhand colliery of the Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) in Latehar district.
The state government has signed MoU with over 50 companies including big houses like Arcelor-Mittal, Tata Power, Tata Steel and Jindal.
