J&K govt records over 11 per cent growth in tax revenue in 2016
The Excise Department has registered a growth of 11.75 per cent in the first five months of the current fiscal year with a revenue realisation of Rs 512.20 crore.

The Excise Department has registered a growth of 11.75 per cent in the first five months of the current fiscal year with a revenue realisation of Rs 512.20 crore, which is Rs 53.85 crore more than the corresponding period of the last financial year, Excise Commissioner Tsering Angchok said.
Angchok said this at a meeting convened under the Chairmanship of Commissioner Secretary Finance Navin K Choudhary here to review physical and financial achievements during the current financial year.
The Excise Commissioner spoke about achievements of the department in the sectors of excise, toll and entertainment duty.
Activities of executive, enforcement and distillery wings were also evaluated, he said.
The Commissioner Secretary laid stress on working in tandem to ensure that the set targets are optimally achieved.
He exhorted field functionaries to be business-friendly while collecting taxes as they are important stakeholders of the taxation system.
Choudhary also directed the department to work with transparency and dedication for enhancing revenue generation in the state.
He stressed on providing specialised training to the officers for smooth handling of tax dispute cases and ensure their time bound disposal.
Choudhary laid emphasis on enhancing enforcement activities and said officials should conduct regular raids in their respective areas of jurisdiction for the purpose and make all-out efforts to eradicate the menace of illicit liquor, bootlegging and illegal cultivation of bhang and poppy.
